Die Polnische Wissenschaftsstiftung (Fundacja na Rzecz Nauki Polskiej) hat PROF. DR. PETER HÄNGGI (Lehrstuhl für Theoretische Physik I) ihren Alexander von Humboldt Honorary Forschungspreis zuerkannt. Jährlich wird diese mit ca. 37.000 Euro dotierte polnische Auszeichnung bis zu zweimal an hochrangige Wissenschaftler unabhängig von deren Fachgebiet vergeben. Der Preis ermöglicht es dem Augsburger Physiker, ab Oktober 2002 mit Unterbrechungen insgesamt zwölf Monate lang an den beiden Instituten für Physik der Schlesien-Universität in Katowiz und der Universität Krakau zu forschen.
