In einem internationalen Vergleich mit Metropolen wie New York, Tokio und Madrid schneidet das Ruhrgebiet als IT-Standort überraschend gut ab. Das hat eine Studie der Arbeitsgruppe für Internetökonomie und elektronische Märkte der Universität Wuppertal ergeben (wir berichteten kurz), deren Ergebnisse am Freitag, 19. April 2002, im Dortmunder Kongresszentrum Westfalenhallen diskutiert werden. Die Untersuchung "New Economy - Erfolgsfaktoren für Regionen im globalen Wettbewerb" wurde von der Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung herausgegeben.
