EMBO Award for Communication in the Life Sciences

Dr. Luc Van Dyck EMBO Communications
EMBO - European Molecular Biology Organization

This year for the first time EMBO will award Euro 5 000 and a silver medal for outstanding works of public communication in the life sciences. Eligible are practising scientists working in research in Europe or Israel.

"EMBO recognises the huge efforts that some scientists make to communicate their science to the public while remaining active in research," says Andrew Moore, Manager for EMBO's Science and Society Programme. "Communicating successfully with a non-scientific audience is very different from talking to colleagues: It is a skill that needs to be promoted."
There are no limitations to the form of communication. The jury particularly looks for imaginative and original works. These can include communication via printed and electronic media, Radio, Television, out-reach, schools projects, talks in public and other special initiatives.
There is one winning application annually. A prize of Euro 5.000 and a silver medal will be awarded on November 9, 2002 during European Science and Technology Week as part of the EMBL/EMBO joint conference on Science & Society in Heidelberg.

    Combination of search terms

You can combine search terms with and, or and/or not, e.g. Philo not logy.

    Brackets

You can use brackets to separate combinations from each other, e.g. (Philo not logy) or (Psycho and logy).

    Phrases

Coherent groups of words will be located as complete phrases if you put them into quotation marks, e.g. “Federal Republic of Germany”.
