Forscher des Bonner Max-Planck-Instituts für Radioastronomie an Entdeckung des dreiatomigen Ammoniakisotops ND3 beteiligt
Schon auf der Erde sehr selten, ist der Fund dieses Moleküls im All eine echte Sensation: Astronomen des Max-Planck-Instituts für Radioastronomie (MPIfR) in Bonn und des California Institute of Technology (CalTech) in Los Angeles haben im All das Molekül ND3 nachgewiesen. Es handelt sich dabei um ein sehr seltenes Isotop des Ammoniaks, bei dem alle drei Wasserstoffatome durch das schwerere Atom Deuterium ersetzt sind - ganz analog zum "Schweren Wasser" (D2O) mit zwei Deuteriumatomen. Moleküle, die Deuterium enthalten, treten meist in extrem kalten Wolken aus Gas und Staub innerhalb unserer Milchstraße auf. In solchen Molekülwolken haben die Forscher zwar schon vorher Moleküle mit einem oder auch zwei Deuteriumatomen gefunden; das jetzt entdeckte Molekül ist allerdings das erste, bei dem gleich drei Wasserstoffatome durch Deuterium ersetzt sind (Astronomy & Astrophysics, Vol. 388(3), June IV, 2002, L53).
