Ernst Ruska Prize 2013 awarded to researchers from Great Britain and Germany

Alexander Schlaak Referat II/2, Kommunikation
Universität Regensburg

The German society for electron microscopy (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Elektronenmikroskopie / DGE) will award the internationally highly esteemed Ernst Ruska Prize to Prof. Dr. Peter Nellist (Oxford, Great Britain) and Prof. Dr. Holger Stark (Göttingen, Germany) for their outstanding scientific accomplishments. The prize will be presented during the microscopy congress MC2013 (http://www.mc2013.de/) held at the University of Regensburg (FRG), where more than 1.000 international scientists will discuss their newest results. Prof. Dr. Josef Zweck from the Institute of Experimental and Applied Physics will hand over the awards as president of the German society for electron microscopy.

Stark receives the prize for his research on structure determination of biological macromolecules which significantly expands the understanding of the functionality of these molecules and the stability of large complexes of molecules. Nellist receives the prize for his research on three-dimensional imaging of nanometre-sized objects using the SCEM (scanning confocal electron microscopy) technique which was substantially developed by him for this purpose.

The Ernst Ruska Prize is named after the Nobel prize winner and inventor of the electron microscope, Prof. Dr. Ernst August Friedrich Ruska. The prize is awarded by the German society for electron microscopy every two years for outstanding achievements in the field of electron microscopy.

    Combination of search terms

You can combine search terms with and, or and/or not, e.g. Philo not logy.

    Brackets

You can use brackets to separate combinations from each other, e.g. (Philo not logy) or (Psycho and logy).

    Phrases

Coherent groups of words will be located as complete phrases if you put them into quotation marks, e.g. “Federal Republic of Germany”.

    Selection criteria

You can also use the advanced search without entering search terms. It will then follow the criteria you have selected (e.g. country or subject area).

If you have not selected any criteria in a given category, the entire category will be searched (e.g. all subject areas or all countries).
