München, 24. Oktober 2002 - Prof.Dr. Bruno Simma, Professor für Völkerrecht ist von den Vereinten Nationen als einer von fünf neuen Richtern des Internationalen Gerichtshofes (IGH) gewählt worden. Der IGH hat seinen Sitz im Friedenspalast in Den Haag und ist das Hauptorgan der UN-Rechtsprechung. Simma tritt sein Amt voraussichtlich am 6. Februar 2003 an. Simma bezeichnete seine Wahl als großen Vertrauensbeweis für Deutschland durch die UN.
Bruno Simma, Jahrgang 1941, ist seit 1973 Professor für Völkerrecht und Vorstand des Instituts für Völkerrecht an der LMU. Von 1981 bis 1989 war er für die völkerrechtliche Ausbildung der Attachés im Auswärtigen Amt der Bundesrepubklik Deutschland zuständig. Seit 1996 ist er Mitglied der Völkerrechtskommission der Vereinten Nationen und hat den Standard - Kommentar zur UN-Charta herausgegeben. Darüber hinaus war er unter anderem als Mitglied des Sportschiedsgerichts des internationalen olympischen Komitees (IOC) und als Prozessvertreter vor dem IGH tätig. (af)
