Der Bielefelder Mathematiker Rudolf Ahlswede und der neue ZiF-Direktor Ipke Wachsmuth eröffnen am 4. November im Zentrum für interdisziplinäre Forschung (ZiF) ab 9.00 Uhr im Plenarsaal der Universität Bielefeld die neue ZiF-Forschungsgruppe Forschungsgruppe "General Theory of Information Transfer and Combinatorics".
Hauptziel der international und interdisziplinär zusammengesetzten Forschergruppe ist eine Weiterent-wicklung der Allgemeinen Theorie des Informationstransfers sowohl aus theoretischer wie auch experimenteller, anwendungsorientierter Sicht. Neben der Herausarbeitung von Anwendungen und Erweiterungen dieser Theorie des Informationstransfers, die auf der klassischen Informationstheorie fußt, die Ende der 1940er Jahre von dem amerikanischen Mathematiker und Ingenieur Claude E. Shannon entwickelt wurde, wird sich die Forschungsgruppe auch an Gebiete heranwagen, in denen Informationsphänomene auftreten, die noch nicht vollständig theoretisch verstanden sind.
Als Hauptarbeitsgebiete der Forschungsgruppe sind vorgesehen: Allgemeine Theorie des Informationstransfers, Quanteninformation, Statistik und Wahrscheinlichkeitstheorie, Kryptologie, Tierkommunikation, Evolution menschlicher Sprache, Bioinformatik, Netzwerktheorie, Such- und Sortiertheorie, Information in der Philosophie.
