Eine schnelle Abwehrreaktion von Pflanzen ist die Auslösung eines Selbstmordprogramms. Krankheitserreger, wie zum Beispiel bestimmte Pilze, die auf lebendem Material wachsen, versuchen diese Reaktion zu verhindern. Auf totem Material wachsende Pilze hingegen nutzen die Selbstmordreaktion der Wirtspflanze für ihre Zwecke aus.
Diese und andere faszinierende Erkenntnisse aus dem Wechselspiel von Pflanze und Krankheitserreger behandelt der Vortrag "Reaktive Sauerstoff-Spezies in der Wirtspflanze-Parasit-Interaktion: Gefürchtete Abwehrwaffe oder hilfreiches Selbstmordprogramm?".
Professor Paul Tudzynski vom Botanischen Institut der Universität Münster referiert aus seinem Forschungsgebiet am Montag, 11. November, 17.15 Uhr in Gebäude 42, Hörsaal 110 an der Universität Kaiserslautern.
