Discussion forum at AGRITECHNICA
Halle (Saale), 13 November 2013 – Large-scale farm operations in Russia, Ukraine and Kazakhstan have displayed visible productivity increases in recent years. Remains of former Socialist large farms are funded by non-agricultural capital to create ‘agroholdings’ which continue the previously established wage labor system and employ state-of-the-art agricultural technology. Challenges and chances related to large-scale structures in agricultural production in these countries will be explored by a forum on ‘Technology & Management’ at AGRITECHNICA, the world’s leading exhibition for agricultural machinery organized by IAMO, the German-Ukrainian Agricultural Policy Dialogue and the German Agricultural Society. The forum will be held in Hannover on 14 November 2013.
IAMO researcher Martin Petrick will discuss in his paper the current situation in the agricultural sector in Russia, Ukraine and Kazakhstan. He will explain success factors and problem areas in large-scale farming and considerable, untapped development potentials in livestock production. Based on the example of Ukraine, Mariya Yaroshko of the German-Ukrainian Agricultural Policy Dialogue (APD) in Kiev, will present trends in agro-industry and agricultural policy. Further issues for discussion will include opportunities of sustainable development in agricultural production in Ukraine and the necessity of a convergence of political framework conditions with basic principles of the EU in terms of national and international investments and in the trade sector. The discussion forum will be moderated by Achim Schaffner, Head of the Economics Department at the German Agricultural Society (DLG), and will provide an opportunity for attendees to clarify questions related to these issues and exchange views on different approaches to research, politics and farming practice.
AGRITECHNICA is the world's leading international exhibition for agricultural machinery and services. 2,700 exhibitors from about 50 countries will present themselves at the trade fair which will be supplemented by a comprehensive framework program of forums and technical conferences. AGRITECHNICA will be held from 12-16 November 2013 at the Fair Grounds in Hannover-Laatzen.
