Characterisation of Laser Components – Sino-German Symposium at the LZH

Lena Bennefeld Marketing & Communications Department
Laser Zentrum Hannover e.V.

In the past ten years, optical coating technologies for high-performance laser components have advanced significantly. Simultaneously, the cooperation between Chinese and German research institutes in the field of optical characterisation has been extended. Against this background, in cooperation with the Tongji University in Shanghai, the Sino-German Symposium on the Characterisation of Laser Components was organized at the Laser Zentrum Hannover e.V. (LZH) from May 5th to 7th.

From May 5th to 7th, 2014, leading Chinese and German scientists in the field came together at the LZH, which is based in the Science Park Marienwerder, for the “Sino-German Symposium 2014: Characterisation of Laser Components”. The symposium was organized in cooperation with Tongji University, Shanghai, and was sponsored by the Chinese-German Centre for Science Support.

The symposium was organized by Prof. Dr. Detlev Ristau, Head of the Laser Components Department at the LZH, and by Prof. Dr. Zhanshan Wang, Director of the Institute of Precision Optical Engineering at Tongji University. After the welcome address by the two organizers, by Miaogen Zhao, Vice-Director of the Chinese-German Centre for Science Support, and by Prof. Dr. Erich Barke, President of the Gottfried-Wilhelm-Leibniz Universität Hannover, the Chinese and German participants used the six symposium sessions for a scientific exchange and intensive discussions.

    Strengthening and initiating joint projects

Reflecting the existing joint research strategies, the presentations focused on the development and standardization of methods for determining laser-induced damage thresholds, optical losses and other essential parameters for laser components. Moreover, design concepts for improving these parameters in modern laser components were discussed.

„The Chinese-German Symposium was an ideal forum for the leading scientists in the field of optical characterisation in China and Germany“, states Prof. Ristau and explains the aims: “At this symposium, we discussed the state of research and interests in both countries, and thus created the basis for further joint strategies.”

Prof. Zhanshan adds: „Furthermore, the symposium will contribute to strengthening the cooperation in research and industry and to improve the economic potential of laser technology and optics in both countries.”

    Help

Search / advanced search of the idw archives
    Combination of search terms

You can combine search terms with and, or and/or not, e.g. Philo not logy.

    Brackets

You can use brackets to separate combinations from each other, e.g. (Philo not logy) or (Psycho and logy).

    Phrases

Coherent groups of words will be located as complete phrases if you put them into quotation marks, e.g. “Federal Republic of Germany”.

    Selection criteria

You can also use the advanced search without entering search terms. It will then follow the criteria you have selected (e.g. country or subject area).

If you have not selected any criteria in a given category, the entire category will be searched (e.g. all subject areas or all countries).
