Ziel ist, weltweit intergenerationelle Programme und Modelle generationsübergreifenden Lernens zu fördern. Vom 20. - 22. März findet im Haus Bommerholz der Universität Dortmund die diesjährige Konferenz des Vorstandes des "International Consortium for Intergenerational Programs ICIP" statt.
Vertreter aus Indien, USA, Singapur, Israel, Kanada und Europa werden zwei Tage beraten über Zukunftsplanung und die Vorbereitung der nächsten Internationalen Kongresse 2004 in Viktoria, Kanada, 2006 in Melbourne, Australien und 2008 in Delhi, Indien.
Ludger Veelken, Leiter des Weiterbildenden Studiums "Weiterbildung für Senioren" und Professor am Institut für Soziologie der Universität Dortmund, ist der derzeitige Vorsitzende der Internationalen nicht staatlichen Organisation. Die Gründung von ICIP wurde 1999 in Haus Bommerholz beschlossen, sie erfolgte 2000 in Maastricht und zum ersten Internationalen Kongress kamen im April 2002 mehr als 100 Teilnehmer aus allen Kontinenten zusammen.
