Zusammen mit zwei weiteren Forschern aus Heidelberg und Zürich
ist Prof.Dr.Alfred Wittinghofer vom Dortmunder Max-Planck-Institut für molekulare Physiologie mit dem deutschen Krebspreis ausgezeichnet worden.
Professor Alfred Wittinghofer wurde für seine experimentelle
Krebsforschung auf dem Gebiet der G-Proteine der Ras - Familie
ausgezeichnet. Bei seinem Vortrag im Würzburger Kongresszentrum machte er deutlich, wie durch Mutationen veränderte Ras-Proteine zu Auslösern von Krebs werden und wie sie vielleicht therapeutisch in Zukunft unter Kontrolle gebracht
werden können.
Seit 1993 ist Prof. Wittinghofer Direktor der Abteilung "Strukturelle Biologie" am Dortmunder Max-Planck-Institut.
Neben zahlreichen anderen Preisen erhielt er im Jahr 2001
den "Louis-Jeantet-Preis für Medizin".
