Comprehensible factual information on „Deep Geothermal Energy“ continues to be of great interest to the general public. Due to the great success of the German edition of the free brochure, a new revised edition is now published in English in order to make the subject accessible to an international audience. All essential aspects of this field of knowledge have been summarized on 80 pages by the Leibniz Institute for Applied Geophysics and its partners. International target and user groups are decision makers in politics and economy as well as journalists, teachers, students and people interested in natural sciences and new technologies.

The revised and translated brochure was printed in an edition of 3,000 copies and is also available for download (see below).
“Comprehensible factual information remains the key to serious handling of future technologies. Consequently, there is a strong need for well-founded information on the utilization of deep geothermal energy”, says Dr. Rüdiger Schulz, leader of the section “Geothermics and Information Systems” at the Leibniz Institute for Applied Geophysics (LIAG) in Hanover, Germany. He is one of the four authors of the publication.
Together with other partners, the authors of the brochure – Dr. Rüdiger Schulz (LIAG), Prof. Ingrid Stober (Karlsruhe Institute of Technology), Dr. Thomas Fritzer (Bavarian Environment Agency) and Dr. Karsten Obst (State Office for Environment, Nature Protection and Geology of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern) – have built up the Geothermal Information System GeotIS in a project funded by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU). The basic contents of the German-language brochure “Tiefe Geothermie – Nutzungsmöglichkeiten in Deutschland” were developed as part of this project. This brochure was printed in three editions with a total number of 18,000 copies.
The new English edition summarizes in a clear and informative way the most important aspects of deep geothermal energy utilization on 80 pages with 42 colour figures. It explains thermophysical and hydraulic principles as well as test procedures and different systems of geothermal utilization. In addition, descriptions of regions in Germany that are most suitable for deep geothermal exploitation and examples of successful geothermal projects are included. Moreover, the Geothermal Information System GeotIS, which provides relevant online maps and data, is described.
The brochure “Deep Geothermal Energy – Application Possibilities in Germany” can be obtained free of charge from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy:

You can combine search terms with and, or and/or not, e.g. Philo not logy.
You can use brackets to separate combinations from each other, e.g. (Philo not logy) or (Psycho and logy).
Coherent groups of words will be located as complete phrases if you put them into quotation marks, e.g. “Federal Republic of Germany”.
You can also use the advanced search without entering search terms. It will then follow the criteria you have selected (e.g. country or subject area).
If you have not selected any criteria in a given category, the entire category will be searched (e.g. all subject areas or all countries).
