“Gender and diversity management in research” conference in Stuttgart
On May 7-8, 2015, Fraunhofer IAO is hosting the Gender and diversity management in research conference as part of the EU-funded project STAGES (Structural Transformation to Achieve Gender Equality in Science). The conference focuses on equal opportunity in the workplace, specifically in the research environment.
How can we embrace equal opportunities for women and men in research and in business? Why is gender and diversity management strategically important for success? How can implementing structural changes improve equal opportunities in scientific and industrial research?
These are the sorts of questions that the STAGES (Structural Transformation to Achieve Gender Equality in Science) project aims to address. Having worked on the EU project for over three years, project partners will now present their results and the milestones reached at the Gender and diversity management in research conference to be held in Stuttgart on May 7-8. As well as providing insights into the developed methods, results and objectives, the conference will also provide a forum in which experts from other research institutions, universities and companies can contribute their ideas.
Creating acceptance for equal opportunity
Often, the first thing we associate with the notion of equal opportunities is the ability to balance our private and professional lives. But equality encompasses much more than just being able to work part time or take advantage of child care options.
This is why, besides examining measures for and barriers to the reconciliation of private and professional life, the conference is also seeking to address questions including: how gender awareness can be integrated into research; what influence organizational culture has on the acceptance of equal opportunity measures; and how the success of such measures can even be determined. The conference will also include keynote speeches given by representatives of research institutions and companies.
The event will provide insights and opportunities for discussion relating to current research, and will present practical experience gained in the following topic areas:
- Gender-aware organizational culture at universities and non-university research institutions
- Gender-aware organizational culture: Women in management and ratios of women in the workplace
- Evaluation of gender-related measures: Practical examples, concepts and key statistics
- Career advancement for women
- Reconciliation of private and professional life: Barriers and measures, networks and platforms
- Gender-aware research
Conference target audience
The conference is aimed at scientists from universities, other research institutions and corporate research centers for whom the issues of equal opportunity for men and women and gender and diversity management are important factors. The conference will be held in German.
