On August 1, 2015, the University of Basel will be under the directorship of Andrea Schenker-Wicki: in its session today, the Senate elected the economics professor from Zurich as new Rector with a comfortable majority. The University Council approved the decision on the same day. Andrea Schenker-Wicki is preceded by Professor Antonio Loprieno, who will be stepping down in July of 2015.
The 55-year-old economist served as Vice Rector of the University of Zurich from 2012 to 2014. In 2001, she was given a full professorship in Business Administration at the University of Zurich and is presently the Director of the Executive MBA and the CAS program Fundamentals of Corporate Conduct (Grundlagen der Unternehmensführung).
One of her specializations is university evaluations; her 1995 habilitation thesis is entitled Evaluation of University Performance, Performance Measurements and Performance Indicators (Evaluation von Hochschulleistungen, Performance Measurements und Leistungsindikatoren). From 1997 to 2001, Andrea Schenker-Wicki worked as Director of the university section at the Federal Office for Education and Science (presently: State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation).
