Hanns Hofmann Award 2015 goes to Erik von Harbou

Dr. Kathrin Rübberdt Öffentlichkeitsarbeit
DECHEMA Gesellschaft für Chemische Technik und Biotechnologie e.V.

The Hanns Hofmann Award of the ProcessNet Subject Division Reaction Engineering is being conferred on Assistant Professor Dr.-Ing. Erik von Harbou of TU Kaiserslautern for his outstanding achievements in the area of the analysis of complex chemical processes and their interaction with fluid technology and thermodynamics.

Erik von Harbou’s research couples fundamental methodological work with the investigation of important practical issues. His main focus is on reaction engineering topics connected with fluid technology and thermodynamics. Von Harbou combines experiments with advanced modeling and simulation methods. His work is distinguished not only by numerous scientific publications, but at the same time by its marked practical relevance; this is underscored by the number of industrial cooperations in which Erik von Harbou is involved.

The Hanns Hofmann Award comes with a cash sum of € 3,000 and is conferred for fundamental and innovative research by young scientists under the age of 35 who have developed a distinctive scientific profile in the field of chemical reaction engineering.

The award ceremony will take place on 28 October 2015 during ESCRE 2015 – European Symposium on Chemical Reaction Engineering - in Fürstenfeldbruck.

Born in 1981, Erik von Harbou studied process engineering at the Technical University of Hamburg-Harburg and was awarded his doctorate with honours at the Technical University of Kaiserslautern. He then held a postdoc position at the University of Cambridge, UK. In June 2013 he was appointed as Assistant Professor for Chemical Systems Engineering at the Technical University of Kaiserslautern. Erik von Harbou was awarded the DOW Pre-Diploma Prize in 2004 and a scholarship from the German Industry Foundation. In 2012 he received a DAAD postdoc scholarship, in 2013 the PhD Prize of the Friends of TU Kaiserslautern and in 2014 a Max Buchner research scholarship.

ProcessNet is the German platform for process engineering, chemical engineering and technical chemistry. It provides a forum for over 5,000 members from science, industry and administration to exchange ideas and experience, discuss topical issues and identify new scientific trends. ProcessNet is a joint initiative of DECHEMA and VDI-GVC. For more details, visit www.processnet.org

Search / advanced search of the idw archives
    Combination of search terms

You can combine search terms with and, or and/or not, e.g. Philo not logy.

    Brackets

You can use brackets to separate combinations from each other, e.g. (Philo not logy) or (Psycho and logy).

    Phrases

Coherent groups of words will be located as complete phrases if you put them into quotation marks, e.g. “Federal Republic of Germany”.

    Selection criteria

You can also use the advanced search without entering search terms. It will then follow the criteria you have selected (e.g. country or subject area).

If you have not selected any criteria in a given category, the entire category will be searched (e.g. all subject areas or all countries).
