Die ICEP-Medaille ist erstmals an deutschen Professor verliehen worden: Prof. Dr. D. K. Nachtigall, emeritierter Professor für Physikdidaktik, wurde im August für sein großes Engagement in der Vermittlung physikdidaktischer Erkenntnisse und ihrer Anwendung in der Ausbildung von Physiklehrerninnen und -lehrern ehrenvoll ausgezeichnet.
Die International Commission on Physics Education (ICEP), eine Unterorganisation der International Union of Pure and Applied Physics (IUPAP), verlieh ihm ihre seit 1975 erst 10. ICEP-Medaille. Damit würdigte die weltweit wichtigste Physiker-Organisation vor allem, daß Nachtigall bereits seit Jahren in vielen Entwicklungs- und Schwellenländern als Gastprofessor mit großem Erfolg Lehraufträge in Physikdidaktik wahrnimmt.
