SBE16 Hamburg: International Conference on Sustainable Construction at the HafenCity University

    At the International Conference SBE16 Hamburg from 7-9 March 2016 scientists will present their strategies, frameworks and concepts on topics of sustainable construction, sustainable neighbourhoods and urban development.

    German environment minister Dr. Barbara Hendricks and HCU president Dr.-Ing. Walter Pelka will open the international conference on Tuesday, 8 March 2016. The organisation team around Prof. Dr. Mojib Latif (Helmholtz Centre) and Prof. Dr. Thomas Lützkendorf (KIT) is looking forward to welcome international and reputable experts from research, planning, housing industry and politics.

    SBE16’s programme offers 150 scientific contributions from over 30 countries. The presented research findings cover topics such as “green building” in Nigeria, sustainable neighbourhood development in Asian cities, current investigations on the relationship between road construction and sustainable urban development in North America and findings on the life cycle approach in the construction sector. The programme will promote scientific and technical exchanges through lectures, workshops and special sessions as well PhD sessions for young scientists.

    The SBE16 Hamburg – Conference on Sustainable Built Environment is part of an international series of conferences focussing on sustainable building and construction. The series was launched by the International Council for Research and Innovation in Building and Construction (CIB) and the International Initiative for a Sustainable Built Environment (iiSBE), in cooperation with UNEP’s Sustainable Building and Climate Initiative (SBCI) and the International Federation of Consulting Engineers (FIDIC).

    ZEBAU GmbH operates as an independent and semi-public network point between politics and administration, science and research and planning and construction. ZEBAU GmbH works for public authorities and the private sector, and provides a link to training and research activities of Hamburg-based universities. Drawing on considerable international experience, ZEBAU GmbH coordinates and supports projects from the concept phase through to final implementation and evaluation.

    About HafenCity University Hamburg:
    HafenCity University (HCU) was founded in 2006 as a fusion of three universities and colleges in Hamburg. As a university of the Built Environment and Metropolitan Development the HCU combines all aspects of construction with respect to planning and design, engineering and natural sciences as well as cultural and social sciences. All disciplines are consequently brought together in an interdisciplinary and integrated manner. In 2014 the HCU moved into its new building in Hamburg’s HafenCity and thus created the foundations of interdisciplinary research and teaching with a high practical relevance. Today, 2.400 students and 450 employees work together in the HafenCity, a special location in Europe’s largest inner-city development project.
