Der Aufsichtsrat des Berliner Instituts für Gesundheitsforschung/Berlin Institut of Health (BIH) hat zwei neue Mitglieder in den Wissenschaftlichen Beirat des Instituts berufen. Seit Februar 2016 gehören der Zellphysiologe und Nobelpreisträger Thomas C. Südhof von der Stanford University und der Endokrinologe Alan R. Shuldiner von der Maryland University dem Gremium an.
Thomas Südhof ist dem BIH bereits seit 2014 als Einstein BIH Visiting Fellow verbunden. Gemeinsam mit Christian Rosenmund von der Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin erforscht der Nobelpreisträger in einem BIH-Projekt, wie Nervenzellen bei neurologischen Erkrankungen miteinander kommunizieren. Alan R. Shuldiner ist Spezialist für Alterserkrankungen wie Typ 2-Diabetes und an der Maryland University unter anderem Direktor des Programms für Personalisierte und Genom-Medizin.
„Wir freuen uns, zwei hochkarätige Mediziner und Forscher für den Wissenschaftlichen Beirat gewonnen zu haben. Insbesondere für die Weiterentwicklung des BIH im Bereich Personalisierte Medizin erwarte ich von Alan Shuldiner und Thomas Südhof viele wertvolle Impulse“, sagt Erwin Böttinger, Vorsitzender des Vorstands.
Der Wissenschaftliche Beirat berät Vorstand und Aufsichtsrat des BIH bei der Planung, Umsetzung, Entwicklung und Evaluation des Forschungsprogramms. Er wird vom Aufsichtsrat des BIH für die Dauer von vier Jahren bestellt.
