The Integrated Publication and Information Systems Institute of the German National Research Center for Information Technology (GMD-IPSI) and the Digital Media Division of TECMATH GmbH & Co KG and have signed an agreement concerning future cooperation. The cooperation will initially focus on the integration of GMD's know-how of advanced analysis, editing and retrieval of multimedia content into media archive©, a content management system developed by TECMATH.

Says Dr. Peter Thomas, Head of research and development at TECMATH's Digital Media Division: "GMD has gained world-wide reputation for its visionary developments in information technology and its leading edge technology in multimedia and telecommunication. With this cooperation, we continue our strategy to introduce the latest research developments into our open solution for professional content management. We believe that the results of our cooperation with GMD-IPSI will make the day-to-day work of our customers much more productive and effective."

media archive© is the outcome of over three years of intense development. It is based on the results of the Esprit project Euromedia, which has been initiated and coordinated by TECMATH. In this project, several technology providers closely cooperated with five major European broadcasters (BBC, ORF, SDR, SWF, SVT). First prototypes are currently employed at SWF, SDR and ORF for archiving and cataloguing television material.

The first joint project will integrate GMD's advanced technology for analyzing and handling MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 streams into media archive© in order to grant fast random access to any video or audio segment. In a joint development effort these technologies will be used to introduce flexible new ways for preview and rough cut on preview material.

TECMATH GmbH & Co. KG was founded in 1986 as a high-tech company for the development of complex software systems. The Digital Media Division, one of four divisions of the TECMATH group, develops solutions for the content management in the broadcasting, publishing and printing sectors.

IPSI, the Integrated Publication and Information Systems Institute (founded 1988) of GMD - German National Research Center for Information Technology (founded 1968) is concerned with the creation, dissemination, and use of multimedia information in a networked environment. IPSI has been involved in a number of international and national activities in multi medial information systems and electronic publishing, conducted with academic and industrial partners from Germany, UK, Italy, France, USA, Australia, and other countries.
