    BAM Press Release No. 1/2017

    Berlin, 10.01.2017. The Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und -prüfung (BAM) has now released the new version of the DANGEROUS GOODS DATABASE (DATENBANK GEFAHRGUT, DGG). Version 11.0 incorporates all regulations that came into effect in 2017. The database is a joint project with the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure (BMVI) and is aimed at companies and authorities that control, plan or implement the transport of dangerous goods.

    "The DANGEROUS GOODS DATABASE enables freight forwarders and logistics companies to quickly access the latest information on international dangerous goods regulations and thus efficiently plan their movement strategy", explains Thomas Goedecke, Head of the BAM Containment Systems for Dangerous Goods Department. Although individual regulations on dangerous goods are to a large extent publicly accessible, their components and effects at the German, European and international level are complex and disperse. The DANGEROUS GOODS DATABASE analyses, evaluates and structures all this data so that it can be used efficiently in a practice. Particularly useful to small and medium-sized enterprises is the DANGEROUS GOODS DATABASE that tracks the current rules development.

    The application is available as an Internet and single-user application. In addition, the dangerous goods data can be integrated into company owned software or products from software manufacturers.

    Version 11.0 offers the following new features:

    The Internet application technology was changed to Java Web Start because the applets do not work in many browsers. Furthermore, the browser window can now be closed while the DGG search is being used.

    Restrictions on road tunnels classified in the Federal Republic of Germany will now be displayed in the "Transport exclusions" section;

    The search has been simplified with a new checkbox "partial word": if this option is selected, a search is made for part of a word. Use of placeholders can be omitted;

    141 new dangerous goods have been included and 11 dangerous goods were re-evaluated

    In addition, the DANGEROUS GOODS DATABASE contains the modules:
    - transport documents to create documents for the transport of piece goods and
    - radioactive substances (Class 7).
