Der Amazonasregenwald enthält 17 Prozent der globalen Kohlenstoffmenge an Land und ist die zentrale Wasserversorgungsstation für weite Teile des südamerikanischen Kontinents. Doch Abholzung und zunehmende Dürren haben eine verheerende Eigendynamik entwickelt. Der Wald baut sich selbst ab - und damit auch seine Leistungen für den Menschen. Doch es gibt einen Rettungsanker: "Die biologische Vielfalt des Regenwaldes muss erhalten bleiben", sagen Wissenschaftler. Eine Botschaft, die bei den globalen Klimaschutzverhandlungen kommende Woche in Bonn Gehör finden sollte.
