On April 16th, 2018, Dr.-Ing. Stefan Kaierle takes over the scientific and technical management of the Laser Zentrum Hannover e.V. (LZH) together with Dr. Dietmar Kracht. He succeeds Prof. Dr.-Ing. Ludger Overmeyer, who takes over the Chairmanship of the Scientific Directorate from Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Ertmer.
Dr.-Ing. Kaierle studied electrical engineering and received his doctorate in mechanical engineering from the RWTH Aachen University. From 1998 to 2011, he headed the System Technology Department at the Fraunhofer Institute for Laser Technology in Aachen. Since 2012, he has been Head of the Materials and Processes Department at the LZH.

The Materials and Processes Department is now lead by Dr.-Ing. Jörg Hermsdorf. He has been working at the LZH since 2001, most recently as Head of both the Machines and Controls as well as of the Surface Technology Group (now: Additive Manufacturing – Metals).
