Leuphana continues Unique Human Rights' Study Programme

Henning Zuehlsdorff Pressestelle
Leuphana Universität Lüneburg

The protection and safeguard of human rights provide the focus of the internationally sought-after Master's programme in ‘Governance and Human Rights’ at the Professional School of the Leuphana University of Lüneburg. The programme equips its graduates with the skills needed for a professional activity in international organisations, development assistance and non-governmental organisations. Applications are open for this English-instructed programme of study starting this October for the fourth consecutive year.

The internationally oriented programme is concerned with responsible government practice, commonly termed ‘governance’ by scholars. The programme focuses first and foremost on communicating governance principles which aim at establishing and safeguarding human rights within the context of cooperation and development assistance. Distance learning gives this four-semester study programme its structure: The lectures and seminars take place predominantly as e-learning units. The presence phases are bundled in three two-week blocks. This flexible format also enables foreign students to study while in paid employment. Launched 2015, it has since welcomed students from 22 nations.

The practical application of knowledge constitutes an important component of the programme: students, therefore, develop their own project on human rights or governance during the course of studies, which concludes with a conference organised by the students on a topic of their choice.

You can apply for a place of study up until 1st July 2018. Tuition fees total 9,900 euros. Further information on the course of studies can be found at www.leuphana.de/gahr. Prospective students have the opportunity to arrange a personal consultation with the Course coordinator, Christoph Kleineberg (christoph.kleineberg@leuphana.de), phone +49 41 31 677-1983).
