The University flies the Rainbow Flag to mark Pride Weeks
To mark the occasion of Pride Weeks in Berlin, the Rainbow Flag has been flying in front of the TU Berlin main building since 2 July 2018. Professor Dr. Christian Thomsen, president of TU Berlin, comments: "Diversity is an essential feature of a university. As such we are delighted to be involved once again in this Berlin-wide event and to be pledging our commitment to tolerance and diversity as well as our opposition to homophobia and transphobia by flying the Rainbow Flag."
The flag was hoisted this year by Kilian Flade, a student on the Urban and Regional Planning master's program at TU Berlin, and Jörg Steinert, director of the Lesbian and Gay Association Berlin-Brandenburg (LSVD).
Kilian Flade is taking over TU Berlin's Instagram account during July - Pride Month. He works as a student assistant in the Chair of Heritage Conservation in the Institute of Urban and Regional Planning and in addition to his studies also runs a queer bar in Berlin. During his "instatakeover" he will be providing insights into daily life from the perspective of a student and member of staff, as well as (queer) life at TU Berlin.

The hoisting of the Rainbow Flag in Berlin traditionally marks the start of Pride Weeks. 1996 was the first time that the city halls of Schöneberg, Tiergarten and Kreuzberg were decorated with the Rainbow Flag, in response to an initiative organized by the Lesbian and Gay Association Berlin-Brandenburg. Over the years, more and more boroughs have chosen to fly the flag. Numerous businesses, associations, universities and other Berlin institutes have also followed suit. This year the Rainbow Flag is being hoisted at more than 100 official locations.
