The École Nationale Supérieure d'Informatique pour l'Industrie et l'Entreprise (ENSIIE) in Evry and the University of Passau are strengthening their ties: summer semester 2020 will see the start of a new international double master's programme in Computer Science, enabling students from both institutions to gain two degrees. The President of the University of Passau, Carola Jungwirth, and the Rector of ENSIIE, Laurent Prével, have signed the co-operation agreement in Passau.
In terms of content, the Franco-German double master's programme aims to combine basic research (University of Passau) with applied science, particularly in the area of entrepreneurship (ENSIEE). Following a successful selection process, students will complete half of their studies and an internship at the respective partner university. The degree programmes will be supplemented with subject-specific language courses as well as transversal skills courses on intercultural competence and professional skills. At the end of the programme, students will graduate with a Master of Science in Computer Science from Passau and a Diplôme d'Ingénieur from ENSIIE. Students who wish to undertake this degree programme should apply at their home university – just like Alban Thaumur did, who is currently the first student completing the programme. Next summer semester, the double master's programme will then be officially offered at both insitutions.
At the University of Passau, the double master's programme is supervised by Professor Harald Kosch, who also initiated the co-operation, and Axelle Cheney, (both at the Chair of Distributed Information Systems). 'We are very excited about the co-operation with ENSIIE, one of France's foremost institutions and one that is particularly innovative in the field of computer science', said Harald Kosch. 'Our exchange has shown that both our institutions share the same objectives. Still, the orientation of our degree programmes in computer science is different enough that they complement each other well, which creates added value for students at both institutions.' The co-operation also benefits greatly from the long-standing close contacts between the Paris region (Île-de-France) and the Free State of Bavaria.
'Friendship, complementarity and innovation are the foundations of the close relationship between the University of Passau and the ENSIIE. By launching the double master's programme in computer science, we are strengthening this connection and making it fit for the future. Those graduating from this programme are particularly well-suited to strengthening Franco-German co-operation, not only in science but also in politics and business. We are a University for Europe and that is our special concern', Professor Carola Jungwirth said.
