Im Internet findet zurzeit erstmals ein "Virtuelles wissenschaftliches Meeting" statt, das von der Europäischen Union (EU) gesponsert wird. Die Organisatoren dieser Web-Konferenz, Jörg Hacker und Abdulsalam Khan, kommen vom Institut für Molekulare Infektionsbiologie der Uni Würzburg.
Thema des Meetings sind die Kohlenhydrate auf der Oberfläche von Zellen und ihre Wechselwirkungen mit Mikroorganismen ("Cell Surface Carbohydrates - Microbial Adhesion"). Dieses Thema wird auch im Rahmen des europaweiten Forschungsprojekts "Polycarb" behandelt, an dem Hacker und Khan ebenfalls beteiligt sind. Das Meeting dauert noch bis 5. Dezember. Teilnehmer aus EU-Ländern können sich kostenlos registrieren und aktiv mit Fragen teilnehmen oder auch einfach nur dem Verlauf folgen:
