Implantate sind aus der modernen Medizin nicht mehr wegzudenken. Sie helfen dem Patienten, nach Unfall, Krankheit oder altersbedingter, schmerzhafter Funktionseinschränkung wieder eine höhere Lebensqualität zu erreichen. So unterstützen Implantate geschädigte Hartgewebe (Knochen) oder Weichgewebe (Gefäße) oder übernehmen deren Funktion. Beispiele sind Schraube und Platte nach Knochenfrakturen oder Gefäßstützen (Stents) bei Gefäßverengungen.
Auf dem Info-Tag sollen neue Ansätze zur Ver-besserung von Implantatwerkstoffen z.B. durch eine gezielte Kontrolle der Grenzflächeneigen-schaften gezeigt werden. Es werden zudem Anstöße für die Entwicklung einer neuen Analytik bzgl. der Biokompatibilität gegeben.
