Drug research: Postdoc receives Hermann Neuhaus Prize

Juliane Jury Presse- und Öffentlichkeitsarbeit
Max-Planck-Institut für Kolloid- und Grenzflächenforschung

(Potsdam) Dr. Chandradhish Ghosh is the recipient of this year's Hermann Neuhaus Prize of 25,000 euros. He is being honored for his outstanding achievements at the interfaces between basic research and practical application: Currently, Ghosh is working on completely new drugs against infections and how to alter properties of existing drugs to make them more effective and less toxic.

In the face of increasing antimicrobial resistance (AMR), innovative strategies are needed both in terms of therapy and prevention in the form of vaccines. Infectious diseases claim many lives worldwide. Chandradhish Ghosh's research aims to develop treatments that can help humanity fight infectious diseases. "My research efforts in this direction can have a direct impact on health," Ghosh says. He adds, "This feeling of being able to contribute to society through my research motivates me to go to the lab every day." At the Max Planck Institute of Colloids and Interfaces, he worked on the development of glyconanomaterials and nanobody-drug conjugates as anti-infectives and immunotherapeutics in the Biomolecular Systems Department headed by Prof. Peter H. Seeberger.

    About the award
Since 2018, the Max Planck Society and the Max Planck Foundation have awarded the Hermann Neuhaus Prize to outstanding postdocs and research group leaders who conduct research with the potential for application at a Max Planck Institute.
