Accolade for research work on lunar radiation

Professor Robert F. Wimmer-Schweingruber has received the International Cooperation Zhongguancun Award 2020 by the city of Beijing. The astrophysicist received this award for Kiel’s contribution to the Chinese mission to the moon, Chang‘E 4. Together with his team, he developed and built the Lunar Lander Neutron and Dosimetry (LND) instrument at Kiel University (CAU). It has been measuring radiation levels on the moon since the start of 2019, because the radiation there represents a serious hazard for future manned moon bases. It was possible to measure this radiation precisely for the first time using this instrument. The Beijing Science and Technology Award 2020 was announced at the Zhongguancun Forum on 25 September. 150 achievements and 14 individual scientists - six of whom are international researchers - received awards. “This is a wonderful recognition of our team’s excellent work and of the good cooperation with our Chinese colleagues,” said Professor Wimmer-Schweingruber.

    Help

Search / advanced search of the idw archives
    Combination of search terms

You can combine search terms with and, or and/or not, e.g. Philo not logy.

    Brackets

You can use brackets to separate combinations from each other, e.g. (Philo not logy) or (Psycho and logy).

    Phrases

Coherent groups of words will be located as complete phrases if you put them into quotation marks, e.g. “Federal Republic of Germany”.

    Selection criteria

You can also use the advanced search without entering search terms. It will then follow the criteria you have selected (e.g. country or subject area).

If you have not selected any criteria in a given category, the entire category will be searched (e.g. all subject areas or all countries).
