According to the globally recognized 2021 Financial Times EMBA Rankings, WHU – Otto Beisheim School of Management’s Executive MBA program ranks 1st in Germany and 24th worldwide. The program is operated jointly by WHU and Kellogg School of Management (USA), one of the oldest and most prestigious business schools in the world, giving participants access to a valuable international and high-level network.
WHU has made significant progress within the Kellogg-WHU Executive MBA program in the last two years. “Our jump from 34th to 24h place worldwide since 2019 does well to support this statement,” shares Professor Dr. Markus Rudolf, Dean of WHU. “Considering the tumultuous times brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic, by which the Kellogg-WHU Executive MBA program was our most seriously hit, WHU is especially proud of its hitherto progress and continuous strive for improvement,” Rudolf says, commenting that, “it is particularly gratifying to see these efforts reflected in such world-renowned rankings.” He comments that “the inconsistency which has accompanied the pandemic has pushed the WHU community to improve its programs’ structure and methodology in order to keep pace with a quickly evolving world while striving for student and alumni satisfaction in all facets of WHU life.”
Analysis of the rankings shows that WHU scores particularly well in the categories "career progress" - calculated based on changes in the seniority level and company size in which alumni currently work versus previous to their EMBA (#7) and "international board" – percentage of board members whose citizenship differs from the business school location (#11). WHU also performed well in the categories of "work experience" - a measure of the pre-EMBA experience of alumni based on previously held position seniority and time spent in each position, organization size, and international work experience (#19) and “research” – in which WHU advanced eight places from 2020 and which is calculated and weighted according to the number of articles published by a school’s active fulltime faculty members in certain scientific journals (#20).
The Financial Times EMBA Ranking 2021 evaluated a total of 100 EMBA programs worldwide. WHU did especially well when compared with its fellow programs within Germany including ESMT Berlin, ESSEC-Mannheim Business School (an EMBA partnership program), Frankfurt School of Finance, and Mannheim Business School, which came in at 36th, 45th, 83rd, and 92nd respectively.
Further recent ranking results which evidence WHU’s growth and prowess are cited below:
• In the 2021 Financial Times Masters in Management Ranking, WHU placed 18th worldwide (ex equo with WU Vienna) and holds the position of #2 Masters in Management (MiM) program in Germany. In an international comparison of business schools, WHU's MiM proved itself above all in the categories "career services" (#2 worldwide), "weighted salary" (#6), and "aims achieved" (#14).
• The Economist Which MBA? Masters in Management Ranking 2021 lists WHU as 8th worldwide and 1st in Germany. Again, WHU achieves very good results in the category "career service", but also in "faculty quality" and "alumni salary", in all of which it is ranked 3rd worldwide. WHU also scores well in the areas of "education experience" (#9) and "potential to network" (#15).
• WHU was evaluated against the top universities around the world and ranked among the Global Top 25 performers in the category of „student mobility” in the 2021 U-Multirank rankings, which analyze 1,948 universities from 97 different countries and whose organization prides itself on its particularly wide range of participating higher education institutions. The 2021 results show WHU demonstrating strengths across various indicators, including remarkable improvements in categories such as “post-doc positions”, where it jumped from “below average” in 2020 to “very good” in 2021.
