"Our thoughts are with the people at the scene"

Stefan Zorn Stabsstelle Kommunikation
Medizinische Hochschule Hannover

The MHH is concerned for the families of staff and students from Ukraine

The Executive Board of Hannover Medical School (MHH) condemns the Russian attack on Ukraine. "Our solidarity goes out to the entire Ukrainian population," says MHH President Professor Dr Michael Manns. "We are following the war with the greatest concern and sympathy. Our thoughts in these terrible hours are with the people at the scene, the families, relatives and friends of our employees and with all those who are working for peace in this situation - especially also with the large group of MHH employees and students with Ukrainian roots who are fearing for their relatives and friends."

The MHH is one of the most international places in Lower Saxony. More than 100 people with Ukrainian passports work and study at the university - and many people from all neighbouring countries. The MHH is thus one of the places where international cooperation for health and peace is lived and practised.

The MHH has many contacts with nurses, doctors and scientists in Ukraine and is prepared to provide medically indicated treatment for people from the war zone. The German universities will assist Ukraine and especially its universities within the scope of their possibilities.

The MHH endorses a statement by the German Rectors' Conference (HRK), which strongly criticises the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The university shares the view of the Federal Government that the attack on Ukraine is a blatant breach of international law that cannot be justified by anything.
