The award acknowledges outstanding projects which contribute toward improving medical healthcare in developing countries along with those persons from organizations who are responsible for the projects. The award is endowed with 100,000 euros. This year the award honors projects on the topic of “Sustainable Surgical Healthcare.”
On a worldwide scale, an estimated 30 percent of all illnesses must be treated surgically. Roughly five billion people, primarily in resource-poor countries, have no access to primary surgical healthcare.
To be understood under “sustainable surgical healthcare” are activities designed to be implemented on a long-term basis and carried out in direct cooperation with local hospitals and physicians. The goal thereby is to make sustained primary surgical healthcare and aftercare accessible to all social strata of the population, and above all include rural regions.
Applications are encouraged which involve successful projects from OECD DAC-listed countries that are based on partnership and demonstrate how surgical healthcare can be improved within the scope of bilateral advanced training. This is intended to be borne by local partners while exhibiting that respective healthcare structures are integrated into it. In doing so, both the enhancement of competencies on the part of medical personnel and improvement of the surgical infrastructure and care are essential. The partnership ought to strengthen surgery as an essential element of local healthcare.
The deadline for application is May 15th, 2022.
The award ceremony shall foreseeably be held in October 2022.
