Anselm Franke appointed new Professor Curatorial Studies at ZHdK

    The University Board has decided to appoint Anselm Franke to the professorship of Curatorial Studies. He will take up his post on 1 August 2022.

    On the recommendation of the responsible search committee, the Executive Board of the Zurich University of the Arts has appointed Anselm Franke as Professor Curatorial Studies. He will take up his post on 1 August 2022. Anselm Franke succeeds Angeli Sachs, who previously held the professorship, has successfully led Curatorial Studies since 2009 and will retire in July 2022.

    Anselm Franke is currently head of the Fine Arts and Film Department at the House of World Cultures in Berlin. In addition to numerous engagements in the stage and theatre sector, he previously worked as a curator and exhibition organiser at KW Institute for Contemporary Art in Berlin, then headed the Kunsthal Extra City in Antwerp and was responsible as a senior curator for numerous festivals and biennials such as Manifesta 7 (2008) in Trento, the biennials of Taipei (2012) and Shanghai (2014) and international collaborative projects. He also has a diverse international network and regular teaching experience at universities in and outside Switzerland. He has also been responsible for numerous publications and holds a PhD from Goldsmiths, University of London.

    At the ZHdK Department of Cultural Analysis, Anselm Franke will head the Master Curatorial Studies, which has been training future curators and cultural mediators since 2008. He will also take on teaching and research tasks.

    With around 2100 Bachelor's and Master's students, Zurich University of the Arts is one of the leading art colleges in Europe. The study and research programme covers the fields of Art Education, Design, Film, Fine Arts, Music, Dance, Theatre and Transdisciplinarity.
