How much utopia does freedom need? From August 30 to September 2, Leuphana University Lüneburg will once again open its campus for an encounter between civil society, academia and politics with the 3rd Utopia Conference.
The transformation researcher Maja Göpel and the philosopher Richard David Precht invite as hosts to explore the future of freedom. In order to get to the bottom of the topic, the conference will highlight various political ideas such as "digital commons", "energy democracy" or "schools as inns of learning”. 1,000 citizens and students from all over Germany are invited to participate in the philosophy festival and democratic political experiment.
Guests at the Utopia Conference include net activist Kübra Gümüşay, Parliamentary State Secretary Franziska Brantner from the Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection, Director of the Frankfurt Institute for Social Research Stephan Lessenich, political thinker Rahel Süß, Hamburg Senator for Culture Carsten Brosda, and Heinrich Böll Foundation board member and former minister Jan Philipp Albrecht.
Conference director Sven Prien-Ribcke is looking forward to the talks in the Libeskind Auditorium and to the direct exchange between participants in the workshops and thinking spaces: "For me, one of the highlights of the conference is the Long Night of Utopian Practice. In an informal festival atmosphere, we want to combine a far-sighted view of what's possible with a close look at concrete change."
In tents, tiny houses and around the campfire, pioneers of change with their stories of success can be found during the Long Night, among them social entrepreneur of the year Henrike Schlottmann from ProjectTogether, architect Van Bo Le Mentzel and founder Verena Pausder.
Interested citizens are cordially welcome to participate in the Utopia conference. Registrations are possible at http://www.leuphana.de/utopie.
