ZHdK awards honorary titles to Zilla Leutenegger and Fabian Chiquet

Caroline Süess Hochschulkommunikation
Zürcher Hochschule der Künste (ZHdK)

The Zurich University of the Arts ZHdK is honouring two alumni for their achievements. It is awarding the artist Zilla Leutenegger the title of “Honorary Companion ZHdK”, while the musician Fabian Chiquet is being awarded the title of “Companion ZHdK”.

These awards enable ZHdK to honour personalities who have rendered outstanding service to the interests of ZHdK in the course of their career, or who have already demonstrated exceptional achievement at a young age. These honorary titles will be presented by the new ZHdK President, Karin Mairitsch, at a ceremony at the University Day on 17 November 2022.

Honorary Companion: Zilla Leutenegger – At home in different media
She creates intimate spaces that resonate for a long time. The artist and ZHdK alumna Zilla Leutenegger (*1968) draws, paints, takes photographs, and works with spatial elements and digitally altered images and sounds. The figure of the artist appears time and again in her works. These are playful, making things easier for her audience. Zilla Leutenegger has received several awards for her work, which have been exhibited internationally. She lives and works in Zurich. Leutenegger graduated from the then Zurich School of Art and Design in 1999. She is being awarded the title “Honorary Companion ZHdK” for her life’s work.

Companion: Fabian Chiquet – Pop and performance
Fabian Chiquet (*1985) from Basel is multi-talented. He makes films, music, theatre and art installations. In 2010, he graduated from ZHdK with a Master’s degree in transdisciplinarity. He co-founded the pop band “The bianca Story”, for whom he is a songwriter and plays keyboards. He has staged his own plays, has toured with them, and has written music for theatre and film on a collaborative basis with the “Club Für Melodien”. In 2021, his first documentary film, “The Pacifist”, was shown in cinemas. In cooperation with Swiss Radio and TV, he is currently working on the project “I’ll Remember You”, a documentary film with a web series and podcast about the pioneers of Swiss pop culture.

    Honorary titles of ZHdK
ZHdK awards its honorary titles once a year. They do not include any financial contribution. Nominations may be made by members of ZHdK. The University Board then decides on the award-winners, based on the recommendations of an advisory committee. These honorary titles are awarded at the ZHdK University Day. The event is not open to the public.
