The British science magazine "Times Higher Education" (THE) has now published its World University Ranking 2023. It is one of the most important international university comparisons. Leuphana University Lüneburg is represented in the current edition for the first time and, with a ranking of 351-400, immediately belongs to the 400 best universities worldwide. In Germany, Leuphana is ranked 35th among the best universities.
The ranking of the British magazine "Times Higher Education" asks academics worldwide about the reputation of universities in research and teaching. In addition, data such as the number of publications per researcher, the citations per publication, the supervision ratio of teachers and students, the third-party funds acquired from industry and the degree of internationalisation are evaluated. The indicators are weighted differently depending on the subject culture.
The World University Ranking takes into account a total of 13 performance indicators, which it divides into five areas: Teaching, research, citations, international orientation and third-party funding from industry. The data basis for the evaluation was more than 120 million citations from over 15.5 million research publications, surveys of around 40,000 academics from all over the world and statistical surveys provided by the universities. For the ranking, 1,799 research-intensive universities from 104 countries were compared.
As in previous years, the current international ranking list is headed by the University of Oxford in Great Britain. The best German university in the international comparison is the Technical University of Munich (30th place).
