The award has been given to Maia G. Vergniory for “Pioneering contributions to the identification of novel topological materials using high throughput searches via her development of the formalism of Topological Quantum Chemistry.”
Maia G. Vergniory, a researcher in the department of Solid State Chemistry at the Max Planck for Chemical Physics of Solids in Dresden, has recently been elected as APS Fellow by the American Physical Society (APS) for her pioneering work developing a new theory known as Topological Quantum Chemistry that has allowed to identify thousands of new topological materials.
Topological materials represent the second revolution in quantum physics, since they violate the classification of matter that we have been considering, showing antagonistic properties inside and on its surface. In this way, they are insulators inside but they conduct the electric current at their edges with hardly any dissipation and with a constant conductivity.
Thanks to these fascinating behaviors, their technological potential is overwhelming, among others, they are ideal platforms for dissipation devices, solar cells, detectors and for the construction of universal quantum computers.

You can combine search terms with and, or and/or not, e.g. Philo not logy.
You can use brackets to separate combinations from each other, e.g. (Philo not logy) or (Psycho and logy).
Coherent groups of words will be located as complete phrases if you put them into quotation marks, e.g. “Federal Republic of Germany”.
You can also use the advanced search without entering search terms. It will then follow the criteria you have selected (e.g. country or subject area).
If you have not selected any criteria in a given category, the entire category will be searched (e.g. all subject areas or all countries).
