Im Rahmen des Projektes des Max Rubner-Instituts „Untersuchungen zum Vorkommen und Wirkung von Bovine Meat and Milk Factors (BMMF) und anderer zirkulärer ssDNA in Lebensmitteln“ sowie weiterer externer Studien zum Vorkommen von BMMF konnte gezeigt werden, dass BMMF nicht nur in Milch- und Fleischprodukten vom europäischen Rind der Art Bos taurus, sondern auch in zahlreichen anderen Lebensmitteln vorkommen.
Die untersuchten Lebensmittel waren sowohl tierischer als auch pflanzlicher Herkunft. Aufgrund dieser neuen Ergebnisse wurde eine weitere gemeinsame Stellungnahme mit dem Titel: „Neue Erkenntnisse zu „Bovine Meat and Milk Factors“ (BMMF)“ in Zusammenarbeit mit dem BfR verfasst (s. Anlage).
