Media release. The Theatre Programme at the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK) will have a new Head as of 1 March 2023: Dr Ramona Mosse.
The University Board of ZHdK has confirmed Ramona Mosse as the new Head of Theatre. In doing so, it followed the recommendation of the search committee of the Department of Performing Arts and Film. Ramona Mosse will take up her new post on 1 March 2023. Her field of study is currently being run on an interim basis by the Head of Department, Marijke Hoogenboom, and by Stephanie Witschi, the Interim Head of Theatre.
Ramona Mosse studied English literature and philosophy at the University of Edinburgh. She then took her doctorate at Columbia University in the USA. She has taught as a lecturer and visiting professor at various institutions including Goethe University in Frankfurt, the Free University of Berlin and Bard College Berlin. She has also worked as a dramaturge and has researched primarily into digitality and the Anthropocene in theatre as part of various scholarship programmes.
“Ramona Mosse is an excellent theatre specialist. She is possessed of a critical vision, questions current practices, and engages with the current shifts in the professional field, both in her teaching and in her artistic research. With her international university experience, she will play a decisive role in shaping the Theatre Programme at ZHdK and in making it sustainable for the future”, says Marijke Hoogenboom, Head of the Department of Performing Arts and Film.
“I was really impressed by the comprehensive opportunities that the Zurich University of the Arts offers for tertiary education in the arts”, says Ramona Mosse. “I am very much looking forward to taking up my position as Head of Programme and being able to help design a theatre training programme that complements the professional foundations with a versatile, interdisciplinary, forward-looking perspective. I see the new Major-Minor model as a great opportunity because it places collaborative practice at the heart of things. At the same time, it enables students to determine their individual focus areas”.
With some 2,100 Bachelor and Master students, ZHdK is one of the largest universities of the arts in Europe. Its study and research programmes encompass art education, design, film, fine arts, music, dance, theatre and transdisciplinarity.
