Kernspintomographie-Studie zeigt, wie das Gehirn automatisch und unbewusst wichtige Wegmarkierungen in einer bestimmten Hirnregion abspeichert
Damit wir den richtigen Weg durch unsere Umgebung finden, müssen wir uns wichtige Informationen über die Wegstrecke merken. Doch bisher war nicht bekannt, wie unser Gehirn das bewerkstelligt. Gabriele Janzen und Miranda van Turennout vom Max-Planck-Institut für Psycholinguistik und dem FC Donders Centrum für Cognitives Neuroimaging in Nijmegen/Niederlande haben jetzt mittels funktioneller Magnet-Resonanz-Tomographie nachgewiesen, dass unser Gehirn selektiv nur jene Markierungen im so genannten parahippocampalen Gyrus abspeichert, die an navigationsrelevanten Positionen entlang einer Route platziert sind. Diese Abspeicherung von Schlüsselinformationen erfolgt automatisch und häufig unbewusst und bildet offensichtlich die neuronalen Grundlage für unser effizientes und erfolgreiches Navigieren durch bekannte oder unbekannte Umgebungen. Diese Befunde wurden in der neuesten Ausgabe von Nature Neuroscience (Nature Neuroscience, 1. Juni 2004) veröffentlicht.
