European University opens Viadrina Center of Polish and Ukrainian Studie

    On Thursday, November 30th, 4:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., the European University Viadrina Frankfurt (Oder) celebrates the inauguration of the Viadrina Center of Polish and Ukrainian Studies (VCPU). All interested parties are cordially invited to attend the event in English in the auditorium “Logensaal” at Logenstraße 11-12.
    Registration is requested via the online form at www.europa-uni.de/vcpu.

    The Ambassador of Ukraine, H. E. Oleksii Makeiev, the Ambassador of the Republic of Poland in Germany, H. E. Dariusz Pawłoś, as well as the Brandenburg Minister of Science, Dr. Manja Schüle, and Prof. Dr. Eduard Mühle, president of European University Viadrina, will give opening remarks. The Center’s directors – Prof. Dr. Dagmara Jajeśniak-Quast, head of the chair for Interdisciplinary Polish Studies, and Prof. Dr. Andrii Portnov, head of the chair for Entangled History of Ukraine – will then present an outlook on the profile and tasks of the university’s new central academic institution.

    Following the inaugural addresses, four renowned experts on East-Central European studies will discuss the topic: “Ex Oriente Lux? What can we learn from Ukraine and East-Central Europe?”. The panel will consist of Prof. Dr. Katarzyna Jędraszczyk (Adam Mickiewicz University, Poznań), Prof. Dr. Maren Röger (Director of the Leibniz Institute for History and Culture of Eastern Europe (GWZO), Leipzig), Dr. Tatiana Zhurzenko (Centre for East European and International Studies (ZOiS), Berlin), and Nadiia Honcharenko (Center for Cultural Studies at the National Academy of Sciences, Kyiv). Prof. Dr. Rory Finnin, Professor of Ukrainian Studies at the University of Cambridge, will moderate the discussion.

    For those who will not be able to attend in person, the event will be streamed live online. The link will be published at www.europa-uni.de/vcpu on the day of the event.
