BIFOLD researchers were honored with three awards at the SIGMOD 2024 conference in Chile. These awards included a Best Paper Honorable Mention for innovative data cleaning techniques (Paper: "SAGA: A Scalable Framework for Optimizing Data Cleaning Pipelines for Machine Learning Applications"). Additionally, Volker Markl received a distinguished service award for exceptional editorial work, and Matthias Böhm was recognized for outstanding program committee contributions. The SIGMOD awards are presented by the Association for Computing Machinery's Special Interest Group on Management of Data (SIGMOD), which focuses on large-scale data management challenges and database technologies.
Each year SIGMOD conference awards are bestowed on researchers who have especially contributed to the field of data management. In 2024 BIFOLD researchers were honored to receive three awards. Congratulations to Volker Markl, Matthias Böhm and their respective teams.
Best Paper Honorable Mention
Researchers in the BIFOLD Big Data Engineering Group led by Prof. Dr. Matthias Böhm have received the Best Paper Honorable Mention for their paper titled "SAGA: A Scalable Framework for Optimizing Data Cleaning Pipelines for Machine Learning Applications." The awardees include Shafaq Siddiqi and Roman Kern from Graz University of Technology, along with BIFOLD Research Group Lead Matthias Böhm. Their paper addresses the challenges data scientists face in the exploratory data science lifecycle. The SAGA framework significantly simplifies data cleaning for machine learning by automating the generation of the top-K most effective data cleaning pipelines. This innovative approach promises robust accuracy improvements and excellent scalability for large-scale data.
