Cooperation with the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport
A travelling group from Emden/Leer University of Applied Sciences recently visited the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport (AASTMT) in Alexandria, Egypt. The reason for the trip was to get to know each other personally and to sign a memorandum of understanding for cooperation between the two educational institutions.
Mohamed Abdelmeguid established contact with the AASTMT. Born in Egypt, he studied at the AASTMT a few years ago and is now a qualified nautical engineer in charge of the laboratory for technical ship navigation at the Maritime Campus in Leer, where he also teaches. The trip to Alexandria, which was also joined by Prof. Dr Marcus Bentin (Dean of the Faculty of Maritime Sciences), Prof. Freerk Meyer (Professor of Mechanical Engineering and Marine Propulsion) and Andrea Meyenburg (Head of the International Office), was supported by the European Union's Erasmus programme.
The delegation was warmly welcomed by AASTMT President Prof. Ismail Abdel Ghaffar Ismail Farag and Captain Dr Ahmed Magdy Abd EL-Wahed Khedr. The guests were impressed by the size, the flawless organisation and the modern facilities at the Maritime Campus in Alexandria. Prof. Dr Marcus Bentin is accordingly hopeful and motivated about the cooperation with one of the largest and most modern maritime educational institutions in Africa. "The team at the AASTMT was very motivated and delighted with our visit," says the Dean. "The impressions we gained on site have strengthened our intention to work together. The cooperation is a great opportunity from which both maritime educational institutions and the students will benefit."
