GiESCO 2025 takes place at Geisenheim University

B. Sc. Tina Kissinger Kommunikation, Marketing und Veranstaltungsmanagement
Hochschule Geisenheim University

This time, the international 23rd GiESCO conference will take place at Hochschule Geisenheim University from July 27 to 31, 2025. It will focus on new solutions for the viticulture of today and tomorrow. Under the motto "Above and Below - Towards the Future", the conference will deal intensively with the climate-related challenges with regard to winemaking as well as soil management and biodiversity.

    Broad range of topics

The conference program includes presentations and discussions on dealing with drought, frost damage, CO pollution and much more (abiotic and biotic stress factors), new approaches to sustainable and ecological viticulture, the important topic of soil and water management, the use of digitalization and robotics in the vineyard, as well as the relatively new topic of data management and modelling to anticipate climate events for the first time.

"All of these topics are crucial for coping with climate change and promoting biodiversity in all its facets in viticulture. With our broad-based conference program, we want to make a holistic contribution to addressing the complex climate challenges of our time. We are looking forward to a large number of interesting presentations and guests from all over the world," comments Prof. Dr. Manfred Stoll, Head of the Institute for General and Organic Viticulture and Professor of General Viticulture at the Hochschule Geisenheim University.

Integrated Professional Day, Young Researcher Award, excursions and event program

In order to ensure a close exchange with viticultural practice and to identify future topics in viticulture, a Professional Day will be integrated into the conference in addition to the scientific presentations. Young researchers are also encouraged to apply for the Young Researcher Poster Award. A varied event program with excursions to wineries in the Rheingau and the surrounding area will provide an interesting insight into local cultivation and production conditions and offer the opportunity to network with regional winegrowers.

"GiESCO has established itself over decades as one of the most renowned international conferences in viticulture. We look forward to hosting GiESCO again next year after 2005 and cordially invite the entire international winegrowing world to Geisenheim," adds Prof. Dr. Hans Reiner Schultz, President of Hochschule Geisenheim University.

"The GiESCO is honored to be hosted for its 23rd congress by the prestigious University of Geisenheim, an international benchmark in vine and wine science and technology. After the previous conference of Ithaca by the university of Cornell (USA), which brought together more than 250 specialists of the sector, the next conference will offer updates in many fields to sustain the viticulture in traditional regions and enable its development in new areas.", says Prof. Dr. Laurent Torregrosa, President of the GiESCO.
