Networking event for those interested in the "Forensic Digital Copies" project

Standardised data format for forensically relevant data as a research project

On 2 September 2024, the Agentur für Innovation in der Cybersicherheit GmbH (Cyberagentur) invites you to the partnering event for the new research project "Forensic Digital Copies". The aim of the project is to develop a standardised data format for forensically relevant data in order to increase efficiency and accuracy in forensics by merging and analysing heterogeneous data formats.

The Cyberagentur is working on a pioneering research project to create a standardised data format for forensically relevant data. The aim is to significantly increase efficiency and accuracy in forensics by bringing together analogue and digital information such as expert reports, fingerprints, hard drive images and network data.

Currently, forensic work is severely limited by heterogeneous data formats, which makes it considerably more difficult to compare and analyse data. The new project aims to develop a data format that enables these different formats to be merged. This includes both the direct comparability of data, e.g. time stamps and location data, as well as the calculation of new information such as gait patterns. "The aim is to develop innovative algorithms that can extract additional biometric information from combined data sources, such as a video recording and a footprint," explains Til Weißflog, who is leading the research project as a research officer in the Secure Society department.

The development of such a generic data format represents a major scientific challenge, as the high heterogeneity of forensic data and traces must be taken into account. In addition, the legal framework for forensic applicability must be taken into account, which places the project in the area of high-risk research. Successful completion of the project could mean significant progress for forensic end users and research institutions.

A partnering event will take place on 2 September 2024 from 14:00 to 15:30. Interested parties can find out more about the research project and exchange ideas with potential partners. Further information on the event and registration can be found on the research project website.

    Background: Cyberagentur

The Agentur für Innovation in der Cybersicherheit GmbH (Cyberagentur) was founded by the Federal Government in 2020 as a fully in-house company of the Federal Government under the joint leadership of the Federal Ministry of Defence and the Federal Ministry of the Interior and for Homeland with the aim of adopting an application strategy-related and cross-departmental view of internal and external security in the field of cybersecurity. Against this backdrop, the work of the Cyberagentur is largely aimed at the institutionalised implementation of highly innovative projects that are associated with a high risk in terms of achieving the objectives, but at the same time can have a very high potential for disruption if successful.

The Cyberagentur is part of the National Security Strategy of the Federal Republic of Germany.

The Cyberagentur is headed by Prof Dr Christian Hummert as Research Director and Managing Director and Daniel Mayer as Commercial Director.

    Combination of search terms

You can combine search terms with and, or and/or not, e.g. Philo not logy.

    Brackets

You can use brackets to separate combinations from each other, e.g. (Philo not logy) or (Psycho and logy).

    Phrases

Coherent groups of words will be located as complete phrases if you put them into quotation marks, e.g. “Federal Republic of Germany”.

    Selection criteria

You can also use the advanced search without entering search terms. It will then follow the criteria you have selected (e.g. country or subject area).

If you have not selected any criteria in a given category, the entire category will be searched (e.g. all subject areas or all countries).
