As part of the ongoing FAIR Data Spaces project, Fraunhofer is inviting companies and consortia to further enhance data exchange and collaboration across various sectors. In this second call, Fraunhofer is offering two research and development subcontracts, each with a budget of 90,000 euros. Participants are encouraged to either expand upon existing demonstrators or create new ones that innovatively address the challenges at the intersection of research and industry. The deadline for submitting proposals is 20 September 2024.
Following the successful launch of the first round, which awarded three subcontracts, Fraunhofer is pleased to announce the second call for companies and consortia to develop new demonstrators for the FAIR Data Spaces project (https://www.nfdi.de/fair-data-spaces/?lang=en). The project continues to drive forward the enhancement of data exchange and collaboration across diverse sectors, anchored in the foundational work of Gaia-X (https://gaia-x.eu), the International Data Spaces (IDS) (https://internationaldataspaces.org), the National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI) (https://www.nfdi.de), and the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) (https://eosc.eu).
The FAIR Data Spaces project aims to establish a standardized, cloud-based data space following the FAIR principles (i.e. ensuring data is Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable). With its demonstrators, the project enhances the availability and utility of research data across various scientific disciplines and industries, further integrating the services provided by initiatives such as Gaia-X, IDS, NFDI, and EOSC.
In this second round, Fraunhofer is offering two subcontracts, each valued at 90,000 euros. Companies and consortia are invited to submit project proposals that either enhance the functionality of existing FAIR Data Spaces demonstrators (https://s.fhg.de/demonstrators) to illustrate their practical applicability or create new demonstrators that innovatively tackle challenges at the interface between research and industry. Throughout the remainder of 2024, the organizations involved in FAIR Data Spaces will support the implementation of these projects with joint events such as hackathons and demonstrations.
Engaging in this initiative offers companies and consortia an opportunity to be at the forefront of innovation within the data space sector and to participate in a leading-edge project aligned with the frameworks of Gaia-X and NFDI. Participation enables companies to elevate their profile within a network of pivotal research and industrial partners.
Proposals will be assessed based on criteria such as interoperability, system architecture, development processes including documentation and testing, security, and the level of innovative application. The evaluation will also consider the mutual value for scientific organizations and companies, advancement beyond current technologies, and sensitivity to ethical, legal, and societal concerns.
The deadline for submissions is 20 September 2024 (11:00 CEST) and further details can be found in the tender documents: https://s.fhg.de/fair-data
