Deaths during the pandemic: MHH team is looking for relatives for interviews

EMBRACE-ME project investigates how relatives experienced the death of loved ones during the coronavirus period

Caring for the dying was particularly difficult during the coronavirus pandemic: restrictions on visits and concerns about contagion and infection made it very difficult to provide care in the last phase of life. Many family members and relatives were unable to say goodbye properly and funeral services could not take place in the desired setting. A team from the Institute of General Practice and Palliative Medicine at Hannover Medical School (MHH) wants to address this issue with the EMBRACE-ME project.

The scientists want to find out how relatives experienced the death of family members or friends under pandemic conditions. They are looking for adult relatives who lost a loved one between March 2020 and January 2023 and are willing to talk about their experiences. An interview lasting around one hour and answers to a short questionnaire are planned. Interpreters will be provided for the interview if required.
The project is being organised in cooperation with the Clinic for Palliative Medicine at Göttingen University Medical Centre.

Further information about the project in various languages is available on the website https://www.mhh.de/allpallmed/embrace-me. For further questions, please contact Maria Bonin, bonin.maria@mh-hannover.de.
