The MULTICLIMACT project partners held their 3rd General Assembly in Ancona, Italy, reviewing progress and planning future climate resilience strategies for the built environment.
The MULTICLIMACT project successfully hosted its 3rd General Assembly in Ancona, Italy, on October 16 and 17, 2024. Held at Università Politecnica delle Marche (UNIVPM), the assembly brought together project partners, stakeholders, and leading experts from across Europe to review progress, share insights, and chart the path forward in the project’s mission to bolster climate resilience and preparedness in the built environment.
Key Takeaways and Achievements from the First Year
The assembly opened with a review of the first project phase, where representatives from key work packages shared the lessons learned over the past year. Partners presented their findings, highlighting advancements in climate adaptation strategies, preparedness techniques, and digital innovations to support a more resilient built environment.
Reflecting on the first year’s accomplishments, the consortium discussed progress in critical areas such as climate risk assessment, the development of materials and technologies for hazard mitigation, and the design of digital tools to enhance response capabilities in urban environments. These findings underscore the growing importance of integrating multifaceted solutions to address climate challenges at multiple scales.
Planning the Next Phase
The second half of the assembly focused on planning the upcoming project phase. Partners laid out detailed strategies for advancing the MULTICLIMACT resilience framework, emphasizing how it can be mainstreamed to support adaptation across different scales in the built environment. Discussions covered a range of work packages, including the design of sustainable practices for mitigating natural hazards and the development of cutting-edge materials and technologies to ensure built environments can respond effectively to disruptive events.
Strengthening Partnerships and Networking
The General Assembly also provided a crucial platform for collaboration and networking among the partners. Day 2 of the event featured workshops on exploitation strategies and discussions on the communication and dissemination of the project’s findings. These sessions helped ensure that the knowledge generated by MULTICLIMACT will be widely shared and implemented across Europe, paving the way for a more resilient and adaptive built environment.
About MULTICLIMACT:
MULTICLIMACT is an EU-funded project aimed at safeguarding Europe's built environment against the increasing threats of natural and climatic hazards. By uniting 25 leading European organisations, MULTICLIMACT aims to enhance resilience, sustainability, and safety for communities across the continent. Through innovative strategies, including a toolkit of 20 reliable methods and digital solutions, the project targets the urgent need for adaptive measures against floods, earthquakes, extreme weather conditions and heatwaves. Tested across four pilot sites with diverse climatic conditions, MULTICLIMACT embodies a shared vision for a safer, more resilient future, focusing on actions to reduce the impact of climate change on the built environment.
As a project partner, Steinbeis Europa Zentrum is responsible for communication and public relations. For this purpose, in addition to the placement of scientific publications, a wide-ranging social media campaign will be implemented, multilingual communication material will be developed and activities such as web seminars and networking events will be carried out.
