Registration opens for the first Symposium on the genomics of African plants for 100 delegates.
The African Plant Genomics Symposium is an eagerly awaited event to be held in Nairobi, Kenya, in 2025, with the aim of building a network, supporting a unified agenda for plant genomics in Africa, and launching the Africa Plant Genomics Society. Scientists and organisations working with African plants are invited to share their perspectives and strategies for research, and build a network that supports the continent’s plant genomics research.
The two-day event will bring 100 African delegates from academia, industry, government and civic society to exchange ideas, share their perspectives and strategies for plant genomics research, highlight the progress of plant genomics in Africa and foster a network supporting the continent’s genomics research.
The chairperson of the organising committee, Dr. Patience Chatukuta, Project Leader from the Max Planck Institute for Biology Tübingen, says of the symposium: “The African Plant Genomics Symposium will provide a platform to showcase and strengthen ongoing research initiatives on African plants, share best practices, and learn from each other. It also seeks to boldly look to the future to identify strategies and solutions that will positively transform the field of genomics of African plants.”
The talks will be given during subject-specific sessions, namely, genome editing, genomics-assisted breeding, ELSI (ethical, legal and social issues), genome sequencing, functional genomics, comparative genomics, bioinformatics, microbes and metagenomes, data management, and regulatory issues. The Symposium will also feature panel discussions, allowing for organic discourse around pertinent issues.
If you are interested in sponsoring or attending the event, a limited number of spots are available. Please visit the https://plantgenomicsafrica.org/ website or email info@plantgenomicsafrica.org to learn more about this exciting event.
The African Plant Genomics Symposium is a singular opportunity to learn, connect, collaborate, and get inspired.
Mark your calendars for 10-11 April, 2025.
